My friend, Leslie, and I have decided to explore the city. We began at the acropolis, the Heptapyrgion (modern Eptapyrgio) or known by its Turkish name, Yedi Kule. It looks really cool from a drone shot. It's not quite as impressive when you're seeing only bits and pieces of it at at a time. It is very large and covers quite a bit of territory, so it takes quite awhile to walk all around it. The fact that it served as a prison from the end of the 19th century until 1989 was definitely believable. It looks like it was made to be such. The view is astounding. So sad to think of prisoners having a prime piece of real estate but locked into tiny, cold, dank rooms with no windows.
